Stop all your lazy thoughts right now and listen! That task you have been putting off will only seem more daunting tomorrow. Haven’t you ever heard the Spanish Proverb “Tomorrow is the busiest day of the week.” Well why wait till tomorrow? Lighten its load today and get started on your home organization now.
Sure, you have to get your hair done, pick up the kids from school, feed the cats…my question is: So? All of the greatest inventors of all times had the same 24 hours in a day to accomplish everything they did, so what makes you think that small daily tasks like this can stop you from getting done what you must?
Here is a list of tips to keep procrastination to the curve and make sure you never let your home’s organization go again.
Just do it
It’s often the first step that takes the most effort. Once you start, you might find that the task was actually quite simple. Just take the leap and go with it.
Set a time
Don’t just schedule your tasks for tomorrow. Set a specific time to get them started and a projected time when you want them done. This leaves little leeway for your procrastination.
Start today, finish today
Procrastination is all about the thought that you could leave any task for tomorrow. So if you start your tasks with the mindset that you will finish no later than today, you will accomplish twice as much as you would on your lazy mindset.
Start with the most daunting task
It is often a procrastinator’s problem to do the small tasks first and leave the more difficult tasks for later, but sometimes later becomes never. Starting with the most difficult task will give you the sense of productivity you need to push through the rest of your tasks in half the time.
Reward or punish yourself
Start a system of rewards and penalties. Yes, I know you are not a kid anymore, but sometimes our minds work the same way. Tell yourself that if you clean the entire garage today, you will treat yourself to a new pair of shoes or a night out. Likewise, if you don’t, you won’t be able to spend the afternoon shopping with the girls tomorrow. This way, you will have something to win or lose for your efforts.
I hope this helps you as much as it helps me. It has truly made a world a difference in the organization of my home.
